Who we are
Towing Capacity Check (towingcapacitycheck.co.uk) is run by BEN SKY LIMITED, trading as BENSKY LTD. We're a company registered in England and Wales, company number 08348493. Our registered office is C/O Not Just Numbers Limited, 5 Carrwood Park, Selby Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, LS15 4LG.
For this policy, we're the "controller" of your personal information, which means we decide how and why it's used. You can contact us about privacy at info@towingcapacitycheck.co.uk.
What personal information we collect
Your email address. When you ask for a full report, we collect your email address so we can send it.
Vehicle registration numbers you enter. When you check a vehicle, we receive the registration number and the vehicle type you choose (car, van or motorbike). Because we link it to your email address when you ask for a report, we treat it as personal information.
Vehicle details we look up. Using your registration number, we get details about the vehicle (such as make, model, year, engine, kerb weight and MOT status) from a third-party vehicle data service. This is information about a vehicle, not about you, but we keep it alongside your request.
Your report request. We keep your email address, the registration and vehicle you asked about, a record that you ticked the consent box (the wording shown and when), and the date and time of your request.
Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and our reply.
Technical information. Our servers log your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and the steps you take on the site (for example searching, or starting and submitting the report form). We use a random session identifier, kept in your browser for the visit, to link those steps together.
We don't ask for your name, address, payment details or driving licence number to run a check.

We don't send marketing emails. We only use your email address to send the report you asked for and to answer questions about it.
Who we share your information with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Our team, who prepare and send your report by hand.
- Our service providers, who process it on our behalf: website hosting and security (Cloudflare), email delivery, the record-keeping tools our team uses to handle requests, and the vehicle data service that receives the registration number to return the vehicle details.
- Professional advisers and authorities, if the law requires it or we need to protect our rights.
International transfers
Some of our providers may be based outside the UK. Where personal information is transferred outside the UK, we make sure there's an appropriate safeguard, such as the UK's adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep your information
- Report requests, including your email address and consent record: 12 months from your request, then deleted or anonymised.
- Server logs, lookup records and event logs: 90 days.
- Messages to us: 24 months.
- Accounting records: as long as the law requires (usually six years).
Cookies
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting and security provider may set strictly necessary cookies to protect the site from abuse. Our site also keeps a random session identifier in your browser's session storage while you use it, and clears it when you close the tab. If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies, we'll ask for your consent first.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- be told how your information is used (that's this policy);
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that's wrong;
- ask us to delete your information, in some circumstances;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, in some circumstances;
- object to us using it where we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive it in a portable format, where it applies; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To use any of these rights, email info@towingcapacitycheck.co.uk. We'll normally reply within one month. We may need to check who you are first.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Our service isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Our site links to other websites, such as GOV.UK. We're not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
